LAKERS SET THE SUNS

The Lakers are back in The Finals! Nothing new, huh?
Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant celebrates after making a basket against the Phoenix Suns in the second half during Game 6 of the NBA Western Conference finals in Phoenix (Kobe Bryant sports the "scowl" after scoring one of his two of his 37 points)
The Lakers make it back to the championship series, where they will take on the Boston Celtics, as they attempt to win their 16th world title. Behind 37 pts. from Mr. Kobe Bryant the Lakers were able to hold off a late surge by the Suns and win the series 4-2 with a 111-103 score. The Suns used a strategy that seemed to backfire on them as they invited Ron Artest to shoot from the perimeter and the "NY City Mad-Man" obliged. Good strategy as Artest has not been hitting from the outside throughout the playoffs, but in Game #6 he found his shot and played a yeoman's game scoring 25 pts hitting 10-16 and 4-7 beyond the arc. The Laker defense also was in the house as they held the Suns to no more than 21 pts. thru 3 quarters  until the final quarter when they allowed the Suns to get back into the game, allowing a 29-20 scoring advantage.

The Suns outscored the Lakers in the 4th quarter by 9 pts. but it proved to not be enough as they could not stop Bryant and that sweet jumper of his as he drained shot after shot, including one where perfect defense was played by two Sun defenders but he still sank it with precision. Amare Stoudemire led the Suns scoring with 27 pts and Steve Nash added his usual strong stat line of 21 pts. and 9 assts. as he attempted to will the series to a game 7, but it was not to be.  Stoudemire and Nash were not allowed the pick and roll play that they have had such success with in the last two games and that proved to be the demise of the squad.

NBA Western Conference Finals, Game six, Los Angeles Lakers at Phoenix Suns
More pressing for the Suns at this point is the fact that Stoudemire can opt out of his contract and become part of the star-studded free agent pool that continues to have GM's salivate at how they sign just one of the many that are being courted by the leagues teams with the checkbook to sign them.

The NBA Championship gets underway Thursday, June 3, 2010 @  9 pm in Los Angeles at Staples Center as the Celtics come to town after having 5 days to rest their geriatric legs and concussed noggins. The series, with it's very old-school flavor, will be a series to watch as it is sure to entertain as the Zen Master brings his mind games and talent laden squad to the floor to face Doc Rivers and his team of mentalist.

PACK v. SEMINOLES IN FINAL

N.C State held on for a big win last night in NewBridge Bank Park as they played into extra innings and came away 10-9 winners against Georgia Tech. On a 2-out single in the 10th inning the Pack scored the winning run after stranding runners all night in game that was seemed to go on for ever. Playing without their skipper, Elliott Avent, N.C State was able to overcome bad calls and spotty play in order to pull the game out. After arguing with officials in the top of the 8th inning Coach Elliott was sent to the showers early disputing a play at the plate  that started when Tech RF Austin Wates threw a laser to the plate that tagged the State base-runner out clearly, but much to the chagrin of Coach Elliott and the WolfPack faithful.
The championship game is set now as #5 Florida State & #7 N.C.  State gets underway at 1pm this afternoon.

LenDale White!!! Your Fired

After trading a 4th & a 6th Round pick to the Tennessee Titans for what Seattle assumed was an up and coming back that would be cognizant of new coach Pete Carroll and his system from USC, where he coached White, they now have told running back LenDale White, C YA!!!!!
Green Bay Packers v Tennessee Titans

General Manager John Schneider stated "It became apparent at this time that LenDale was not ready to be a member of the Seahawks. It just did not appear to be the right fit at this point in our program. We wish LenDale all the best with his future."
White also faces a 4 game suspension for violating the League substance abuse policy but the Seahawks have said that this is not the reason that they released the RB. League information is that White has a weak work effort and has shown that he will not and cannot commit himself to buying into the new Carroll attitude and do what he needs to in order to make himself an All-Pro player.

JORDAN IS BACK AGAIN!!!

In a move that is sure to please all gamers ESPN and its 2K series is attempting to garner the video services on none other than your Bobcats owner, Mr. Michael Jeffrey Jordan.

BASKETBALL: NBA 97/98 CHICAGO BULLS, 07.11.97

The network is currently in talks with past opponents and teammates of Jordan to see who they can sign in order to make the deadline to ensure that they are all included in the release of the game. ESPN has stated that they want to have Jordan grace the cover in his classic #23 Bulls jersey. It would be awesome to see the old series that included the Bulls, Lakers, Celtics and Knicks back on the tube and have control, finally, of Jordan's skills.

NEW YORK IT IS!

GIANTS/JETS STADIUM

The NFL has announced that the New York will be the site of the 2014
Super Bowl. In a surprising move by the league away from normal warm areas for this marquee game this Super Bowl will be the first in a cold-weather climate as it will be held in the new New Jersey Meadowlands
Stadium. There are analysts that predict the city will gain $55 to $550
million dollars from the event which will be a helluva profit from the
$40 million dollars that the host-committe must raise first to be able to present the most expensive Bowl ever.
Now let the bidding begin for the stadium sponsor winner whose name will be said millions of times once it is hoisted to the front of the stadium and any reference is made to this game.

Big-Venus Style

Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system and Venus Williams is one of the hottest athletes in the world! She solidified that in her 1st Round match against Patty Schnyder in the 2010 French Open in a very sexxy red and black number.

Venus Williams French Open Tennis 2010

Williams playing in a self-designed outfit also sported brown flesh-toned under garments that gave the look of her not wearing any undergarments to those with a small television, cataracts, severe far sighteddness or those old fuddy-duddies that just want to condemn her sense of style anyway. Williams, the #2 seed, won the match and moved on to Round #2 where she will take on Arantxa Parra Santonja.

Venus Williams French Open Tennis 2010

VENUS WILLIAMS

Williams stated "the flesh toned sport shorts were worn to give her outfit the illusion that she desired" The French aren't as up in arms as the Americans watching have been but this is America. Home of the brave, Home of the censored!! You go girrlll!!!!

Mike Brown Told to Kick Rocks Out of Cleveland!!

Cavliers coach Brown directs his team from the bench against the Celtics during game 6 of their NBA Eastern Conference playoff basketball series in Boston

After posting the best record in the NBA again for the second straight season the Cleveland Cavaliers reward
Coach Mike Brown with a pink slip! In a move that will inevitably cause the demise of a pretty damn good
core of talent the Cavaliers feel that Brown has not got the job done when they most needed it. In the
playoffs!!
Brown, who became coach of the Cavs in 2005, posted a solid 211-117 (64%) win percentage. Brown
posted 40 plus wins each season at the helm of the LeBron-Machine with 60 plus each of the last two seasons.
Pretty terrible results huh? What the Cavs front office has stated was the reason behind the firing was the
inability to move forward in the playoffs although he was the coach when they reached the 2007 NBA Finals.
Browns career playoff record stands at 36-24 (60%) and he garnered the Coach of the year award in the
2008-2009 season.
There is already chatter that the New Jersey Nets and Chicago Bulls have contacted the recently fired coach in
reference to their coaching vacancies.

Magic Survive in OT!

Orlando Magic's Howard is congratulated by teammates Lewis, Nelson and Carter during overtime in Game 4 of their NBA Eastern Conference playoff series in Boston
With their backs against the wall and facing elimination down 0-3 the Orlando Magic managed to prolong their playoff lives by beating the Boston Celtics in overtime, 96-92. Magic players played together with Dwight Howard finally playing a complete game with 32 pts. & 16 rbs.,
Orlando Magic at Boston Celtics Eastern Conference finals (Howard seen here throwing down one of the MANY alley-oops delivered by nelson in game #4)

17 of them in the first half, and Jameer Nelson added 23 pts and 9 dimes.  The Magic led after the first quarter by 6 pts. as they scored the most points they have all series.

The Celtics definitely had their chances late in the OT to come away with a close-out win but Paul Pierce missed two 3pt. attempts with 9.6 seconds left.
Orlando Magic at Boston Celtics Eastern Conference finals
Pierce finished with 32 pts. and 11 rbs., Ray Allen 22 pts, on 5-7 from 3 pt. land, and Kevin Garnett chipped in 14 pts. and 12 rbs. Rajon Rondo, playing with foul issues since the 1st quarter never really got into his normal rhythm and could only muster 9 pts., 3 rbs. & 8 assts. Rondo also suffered a thigh injury so we will keep an eye on it to see if it limits his movement as much as it did in Game #4, as he was a step behind Nelson for most of the game after suffering the injury.
As the same goes in other pro championship games you rarely see sweeps or shutouts at this level of the playoffs. Stan Van Gundy coached an expert game as he stretched the game by resting his starters early and using his bench early and often.
Orlando Magic at Boston Celtics Eastern Conference finals
That move allowed the starters to stay fresh and most of all out of foul trouble. Game #5 is scheduled for Wednesday, 5-26, 2010 in Orlando at 8:30 on ESPN.

Celtics Fizzle Magic!

5865.gif

Leading from the starting gun, the Boston Celtics took a 3-0 lead in their best of seven series against the Orlando Magic with a 94-71 win. Rajon Rondo again led the Celts with 11 pts. and 12 assts and chipped in 4 stls. The kid looked focused all night as he made play after play that enabled the Celtics to take the lead and never look back including one brilliant steal from Orlando Jason Williams that led to a beautiful converted bucket. Celtics' Rondo makes a steal on Magic's Williams during Game 3 of their NBA Eastern Conference playoff series in Boston
Glen "Big-Baby" Davis came off the bench and added 17 pts. & 6 rbs. in 23 minutes and Paul Pierce, playing a very motivated game, added 15 pts. and 9 rbs.. Ray Allen added 14 pts., 6 rbs. & 6 assts. and Kevin Garnett finished with 10 pts. 6 rbs. & 3 stls. Rondo added in the post game interview
"We believe in the system. We have so many weapons and we are still hungry".

The Magic body language began to mimmic the same as the Cleveland Cavs when they had been broken down by the Celtic defense late in their series.

Magic's Howard looks on from the bench while his team plays the Celtics during Game 3 of their NBA Eastern Conference playoff series in Boston

Dwight Howard played a less than inspired game with 7 pts. 7 rbs. and 3 blks. on a night when he shot a tawdry 3-10 from the field. Vince Carter led the Magic scoring with 15 pts. & 5 rbs. as they shot 36.9 from the field and only 8-30 from 3 point range. Jameer Nelson, seen covering his face with his hands on the bench after the Celtics removed their starters at the 4 minute mark also added 15 pts. but never caught a good rhythm in the game. The Magic committed 17 turnovers and only achieved 10 assts from the field for the entire game.

Attempting to win their 18th League Championship Boston has posted 6 straight wins now against the two best records in the League. No team has ever come back from a 0-3 deficit to win a conference championship series and that is what the Magic are faced with at this point.
Game #3 is set for  Monday night @ 8:30 on ESPN.

Celts-Magic Preview

Down 0-2 the Magic bring their game into TD Garden and hope for the best against "the old guys"!  The Magic have not played their best ball in this series and with Boston playing .500 ball since Santa slid down the chimney (27-27) the lead that Boston has is VERY surprising. The Magic on a tear since where they did not lose a game until the beginning of this series seem like deer caught in the headlights as they cannot manufacture a win regardless how hard they play. Pierce being guarded by Vince Carter has been a joke and Carter has to realize that DEFENSE means more right now than points. He has to stop complaining and take the Paul Pierce defensive approach and play "D" first, as Pierce did against the LeBron & the Cavs and put scoring in the backseat.
Boston Celtics at Orlando Magic Playoffs

Orlando is definitely quicker than Boston but Boston is using their basketball intelligence to "outquick" the younger, more fleet-footed Orlando team.  Orlando has to have Howard pay a complete game, WITH HELP, and not play to the crowd with all the cheesing smiles and waves to the crowd that he had in Game 2. Howard must realize that he is in jeopardy of going on vacation shortly if he does not take this series more seriously! This is not a movie and it is not going to end the way that the Director wants it to end unless the Director is coach Doc Rivers!!

The Philadelphia 76ers have named their new head coach and Doug Collins gets the nod. Collins, drafted by the Sixers #1 in the 1973 draft, played eight seasons for the 76ers.  Collins has been a TNT broadcaster since leaving the Wizards in 2003.
Doug Collins shouts instructions

Celtics Take 2-0 Lead Back home to Boston

Boston Celtics at Orlando Magic Playoffs
The Boston Celtics are waking this morning back at home with a commanding 2-0 lead on the Orlando Magic.
Led by Paul Pierce, who caught fire after a hard intentional foul by Dwight Howard, and his 25pts., 5rbs. & 5assts. the Celts held on for the big win.

Boston Celtics at Orlando Magic Playoffs

Dwight Howard finally played out of his Game 1 funk and poured in 30 pts. and pulled down 8rbs. on the
night. In a game where Howard was full of himself as he played to the camera and the fans all night, even
in critical times of the game, good defense eventually wiped the smug "Ive got this win in my pocket" look
right off his face after the final buzzer. The rest of the Magic lineup just could not throw it in the ocean as
they went 13-42 compared to Howards 9-13 from the field. Questionable coaching decisions in the last 10
seconds really cost the Magic the win.

The Celtics win their 5th straight game and 4th in a row away from the Garden. Paul Pierce stated to the Celtic faithful after the game "Yall are not gonna let us quit! We are coming home to close it out!"
Game 3 is set for Saturday, May 22 in Boston on ESPN.

Celtics Win Eastern Conference Finals Game 1

Celtics' Allen tries to get past Magic's. Redick during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals NBA basketball series in Orlando
The Boston Celtics went down to Orlando and handed the Magic their first loss in this years playoffs. Ray Allen led the charge for the Celtics with 25 pts. and 7 rbs, with 13 pts. coming in the second half. Playing hard nosed defense the entire way Boston kept the Magic from a win. Paul Pierce chipped in 22 pts. 9 rbs. and 5 assts. and Rasheed Wallace added 13 pts. off the bench. Leading the game from the start enabled the Celtics to hang on as the Magic attempted to steal the win late in the fourth quarter. Dwight Howard, stiffled much of the afternoon by the bigs of the Celtics, managed just 14 pts. 12 rbs. & 5 blks. but turned the ball over 7 times. The Magic fought back after being down by as much as twenty points and were able to cut the lead to 2 late in the fourth at 90-88 but good free throw shooting by Allen and Pierce allowed the win to stay in tact.

Orlando Magic guard Vince Carter dunks the ball in the second quarter of play against the Boston Celtics in Orlando
Vince Carter led a weak Magic offensive display with 23 pts. and 5 rbs and Jameer Nelson tossed in 20 pts, with 13 of them coming in the second half. The Celtics now have home court back and look to steal a second win in game 2. Research shows that the team that wins game 1 of the Conference Finals wins the series 80% o the time. Game 2 is set for Tuesday at 8:30 on ABC.

Celtics Move On to Second Round

Cleveland Cavaliers at Boston Celtics Eastern Conference Semifinals
Led by "The Big-Ticket" Kevin Garnett the Boston Celtics played a complete game both at the offensive end and defensive ends of the court winning the Eastern Semis 4-2 over the Cleveland Cavaliers with a 94-85 win.

Garnett paced the Celts in the win with 22 pts. and 12 rbs. and Rajon Rondo added his usual healthy stat line with 21 pts., 12 assts., 5 stls., and 3 rbs. as he continues to mature in these 2010 playoffs. Paul Pierce finished with 13 pts. and Ray Allen on a bad night of shooting that seemed just that much off pitched in 8 pts. to close the scoring for the BIG 3 Plus 1. Tony Allen added 10 pts. to lead bench players including this posterization of Antawn Jamison.
Celtics Allen goes up for a slam dunk past Cavaliers Jamison, James and Parker during Game 6 of their NBA Eastern Conference playoff basketball series in Boston

After frustrating James in Game 5 the Celtics again put together a defensive gem against the League MVP until he and his teammates body language showed that they finally conceded early in the fourth quarter. James however did finish with a triple-double of 27 pts., 19 rbs. and 10 assts. causing many other ballers to wish they could have a bad game and finish with stats like that.

Rondo Trip-Dub Paces Celtics to 2-2 Series Tie

Cleveland Cavaliers at Boston Celtics Eastern Conference Semifinals
Playing like a team possessed for most of the game the Boston Celtics again showed their playoff power winning Game #4 97-87.
Rajon Rondo posts superb numbers with 29 pts., 18 rbs. & 13 assts. and helps to maintain the post season run for the Boston fans. Rondo, who played timidly in the blowout loss to the Cavaliers on Friday night came out this Mothers Day and showed why the Celtic front office decided to sign the kid to a long term deal locking his stay up in Boston for years to come.

Boston Celtics Allen, Pierce, Rondo, and Garnett watch their team play the Cavaliers during the fourth quarter in Game 3 of their NBA Eastern Conference playoff basketball series in Boston
Two of the big three played well as Kevin Garnett added 18 pts. & 6 rbs. and Ray Allen 18 pts. also before fouling out on a call that never would have been called in the tough Lakers-Celtics or Pistons-Bulls series of the 80's & 90's. Tony Allen playing for the foul-proned and very ineffective Paul Pierce came off the bench and added 15 strong points to the cause as well as much needed defense on the other end of the court, which is something that Pierce has not been able to add to the series thus far.
LeBron James managed 22 pts. in the loss which will undoubtedly bring back to life "Elbow-Gate"! The Cavaliers were able to make the game close late in the third to midway in the fourth but playing with confidence the Celtics were able to reestablish their defense and hold Cleveland at bay. Game #5 of the series gets underway Tuesday night 8pm on TNT.

NBA 2nd Round Predictions

EAST

Cavaliers v. Celtics
Boston Celtics at Cleveland Cavaliers Eastern Conference second round playoff game 2
With the most talked about elbow since November 2007 when Bret Favres injured elbow almost stopped his "Ironman" streak, LeBron James and his injured elbow battle against the Celtics of Boston. This series is a "battle-royale" that will be played VERY physical and is made for basketball enthusiasts as it is going to bounce back and forth. The Celtics defense is going to be their calling card especially when it is working but when they are disinterested and do not play team defense then James and his underlings are going to run the court like they belong in the Western conference. The Cavs have added some major pieces to their missing puzzle and hope that it is what enable them to make it to the Finals and go home with the hardware. Although defense is going to be key for both teams I wonder if the age of the Celts is going to be enough to outlast the upstart Cavs and their bench. The Celtics have a lot of big bodies in Perkins, Wallace, Davis, etc. to come off the bench, battle inside and use fouls to their benefit.
Boston Celtics at Cleveland Cavaliers Eastern Conference second round playoff game 2
They must understand that wrapping Shaq up when he makes a move is not an embarrassing thing. If they don't then the "Diesel" is going to have his way in the paint whether kicking the ball out to James and other shooters or lumbering into the rim for an easy dunk or tip. The Celtics have to out-think the youngsters and they can advance. This series will be a good view but I don't see it going past 6 games. Celtics win in 5 if the old legs can work in conjunction with the youthful minds.

Magic v. Hawks
Orlando Magic at Charlotte Bobcats
The Hawks coming off a long first round series and not looking particularly sharp in their win now face a "hott" Magic team that boasts the two-time Defensive player of the Year, Dwight Howard. Howard is sporting extra motivation after releasing his disgust of the officiating in the opening round series against the Bobcats, and looks to have his mojo back which is bad news for the undersized and undermanned Hawks. The Hawks will enter a valiant effort but the Magic will be too much unless they are able to frustrate Howard and suck him into fouls that he shouldn't make. Howard on the bench is going to be the Hawks best play. Keeping defensive wraps on PG Nelson will also be essential to the Hawks at least making this series one that they can steal a game or two out of. The Magic in 5.

Eastern Conference Finals-Celtics v. Magic

WEST

Suns v. Spurs
Phoenix Suns' Nash of Canada talks with teammate Stoudemire during NBA Western Conference semi-final playoff series in Phoen
The "Big-Fundamental" and the "Canadian-Usain" is going to be a treat to watch. No doubt!!! Throw out the defense in this series because it is going to be non-existent! If the Spurs get too wrapped up in trying to control Nash and the score then by the time they look up they are going to have allowed a sixty-point half to the Suns. Against "Los Suns" you must get up the court and get into your offense and in the event of a missed shot or inbounds to Nash, they must get back down the court and defend as best they can. Tim Duncan, Tony Parker & Manu Ginobili
Phoenix Suns v San Antonio Spurs, Game 5
will be a great match for the running game of the Suns but they must keep their head on a swivel when the ball is in the hands of PG Nash. The Suns bench is "feast or famine" as they are led by Dudley, Frye and a bunch of no-names following Leandro Barbosa and his sweet shot. If Barbosa gets hot then he and the second team could spell disaster for the Spurs while Nash, Stoudemire, Hill and the remaining starters rest. Great wide open western conference running series but I again cannot bet against Duncan and Popovich. Every-time you count out the old guy he fills his passion-bucket full and shows you why he can still play at an old age. Another long series but Spurs in 6 once they become accustomed to the speed of "Los Suns"!

Lakers v. Jazz
Phil & Kobe!! What more needs to be said? Phil has motivated Kobe for this point of the year since the All-Star game. When they hit their slide late in the season and were being questioned by all media Phil kept whispering in Kobe's ear about the "haters" and now I am seeing the fire and focus that IS what makes Kobe Bryant the best payer in the league.
Los Angeles Lakers vs Utah Jazz Game 1 NBA Western Conference semifinals in Los Angeles
He has turned up his game at the right time and against the right team because Sloan and his Jazz are a team to be reckoned with, as is any Jerry Sloan coached team. Sloans teams always adopt his passionate scrappy attitude and before you know it,Los Angeles Lakers vs Utah Jazz Game 2 NBA Western Conference semifinals in Los Angeles they have a lead and are leaving town with a series win. The Lakers need to be careful in this series and not relax and expect Bryant to do it all at both ends of the court so that Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer don't sneak up and make this a long series. The lack of the Laker bench is going to be key as is the defensive play on the Jazz guards. Everyone knows the Lakers are too slow to keep up with opposing guards and that sore thumb is going to be exposed here as it was in Round 1. The Lakers will win but it will not be easy. They may even lose a couple of players with the physical play that the Jazz implore but they should still win the series. Lakers in 5 just to see more Nicholson in Staples. (If it goes longer than 5, then Utah will still be playing Jazz in the Finals.)

Brady Quinn In Jaguar Teal?

Rumors out of Jacksonville today are discussing a move that may bring young, unproven EX Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn south to the the Jags in a trade that could involve a DE. The Broncos deny any interest at this time but as we all know the NFL front offices will deny rumors until the ink is dry (cue Donovan McNabb profile picture).

2007 ESPY Awards - Arrivals
Certainly could be an interesting move as the Jags owner has called starter David Garrard out saying "it's now or never for the qb and team to produce." We will see how this turns out.

Pac Man Jones Visiting Bengals Today

Much maligned cornerback Adam 'Pac Man Jones Minnesota Vikings v Dallas Cowboys
(seen above in happier times)

is rumored to be working out for the Cincinnati Bengals this afternoon in hopes of returning back the NFL. There has been a lot of chatter lately as to Jones landing with some team and it looks like finally he has his foot in the door of one teams facility.

Suns Nash Past Spurs

San Antonio Spurs at Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns have taken a 1-0 lead in their semi-final series against the San Antonio Spurs after winning Monday night 111-102. The Spurs seemed to let Steve Nash run and gun wherever he wanted to for all four quarters as Nash posts a game high of 33 pts.and 10 assts.

NBA Playoffs, Second Round, San Antonio Spurs at Phoenix Suns

Nash had his way with rookie George Hill as he, as the kids say, "took him to school". Manu Ginobili led the Spurs with 27 pts., Tony Parker 26 pts. and Tim Duncan, always solid, dotted the stat book with 20 pts. & 10 rbs. With no help from their bench the Spurs could no nthing but watch as Nash ran up and down the court scoring layup after layup. If the Spurs dont get some help off of their bench they are in for a world of hurt. The series resumes Wednesday with Game 2 in Phoenix.

Celtics Tie Series 1-1 Behind Allen
