Moss/Merriman Waiver Party

Now that the most anticipated waiver wire news has been handed down and the dust has settled from Twitter we see that the top two names, WR Randy Moss and OLB Shawne Merriman, on the list have been claimed.

Randy Moss is now a Tennessee Titan and has released a statement that he is very happy and will report with no problems. Moss, released Tuesday after a much ballyhooed release by Head Coach Brad Childress, found himself on the waiver wire hoping to be picked up by some team that he would be willing to report to. Upon release, numerous conversations were struck in favor of how quickly Moss would be able to find work and with whom but the Titans were never mentioned.  Instead he waited just like the rest of the sports world for the news and then noticed that 22 other teams passed on him, including the Raiders and Dolphins, two teams in need of help at the WR position.  The Titans stepped to the plate and finally claimed him even though they passed on him in the 1998 draft when they drafted WR Kevin Dyson making Moss the first player since 1991 to play on three different teams in the same season. Moss now takes his 22 receptions, 313 yards and 5 touchdowns for the year to Tennessee in hopes that Vince Young, the NFL's highest rated passer, will be able to launch bombs to the speedy deep threat. The Titans have a bye this week, but Moss will suit up on November 14 when the team travels to Miami to start the second half of the season where he has the opportunity to make history if he catches a touchdown pass with his 3rd team in the same season.

Shawne "Lights Out" Merriman has been claimed by the Buffalo Bills this afternoon. He also has said that the will report although he will most likely be on the sideline on Sunday when the Bills take on the Bears at home. Merriman was placed on IR ealier this season with a calf injury by the San Diego Chargers and subsequently released when he healed from the injury. Merriman has been injured for much of the past three seasons and this season has been no different. He has 5 total tackles and 0 sacks so far this season and he now joins a defense ranked last in points per game and turnovers. Hopefully he can regain his Pro Bowl caliber play and turn the defense around as it looks like the offense has finally found a heartbeat in the last three weeks, although they have yet to win their first game of the season.  Tampa Bay and Miami are rumored to have put in claims for the OLB as well.

It will be interesting to see how these new arrangements will work out but everyone seems happy at this point. My hope is that Moss and his dog don't have any further food issues with the barbecue that Tennessee is best known for. That will set this whole situation back into motion!! What Tennessee caterer is going to be the brave one to offer to feed the Titan team after Fridays practice knowing that "Moss the Food Critique" is now in town?
